MAMODIS
MAss MOvement Detection and Identification System
MAMODIS is a detection system for debris flows, debris floods and snow avalanches based on infrasound and seismic signals. The detection system consists of one infrasound sensor, one co-located geophone and a micro-controller, where a specially designed detection algorithm is executed. This algorithm reliable detects events in real-time directly at the sensor site. The system provides a modular setup, which is inexpensive, portable and can be easily installed beside a torrent. Therefore it offers a low-cost and practicable solution for early warning.
Possible applications:
Protection of infrastructure like traffic lines by controlling a traffic light, information about events to check the status of technical protection measure (e.g. fill level of a retention basin or debris-flow net), protection of construction sites inside the channel (e.g. for cleaning up a basin after an event), or at regions where a temporary protection is sufficient.
Furthermore MAMODIS provides first information of the process-type and a rough estimation of the peak discharge and the total volume. These values are calculated from the seismic and infrasound signals.
MAMODIS - typical system setup:
- Infrasound-Sensor: ALMOSYS IS-Sensor (up to 2 inputs)
- Geophone: Sensor Nl SM-6 (up to 3 inputs)
- Additional 4-20 mV input possible (e.g. flow height)
- Microcontroller: STM32L4R9AI
- Time Synchronization: GPS-Modul
- Communication: GSM-Modul, WIFI or LoRa
- Alarm Output: Two different Alarm Levels (depending on event magnitude), Output signal via Relay or RF-Module, SMS-Alert, Event-Message to Server, E-Mail Alert
- Status-Messages to Grafana Internet Platform every hour to check functionality and get event information
- Power supply: Solar panel (min. 10Wp), charge controller and battery (min. 12Ah)
- Additional equipment: PICam (Webcam based on Raspberry PI)
System costs depending on the application and equipment (including installation and maintenance for one year): € 6.000 - 9.000
